The Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering promotes the use of engineering approaches to solve societal challenges concerning the built and natural environment. Our undergraduate programs programs fall into three categories: civil engineering, environmental engineering, and naval engineering.

A low student to faculty ratio and small class size means easy access to faculty, personalized instruction and more effective class participation. Other educational advantages afforded by our programs include:

  • CEOE students who pursue a master’s degree have the advantage of advancing to competitive positions through leveraging advanced skills and knowledge beyond what is covered in the undergraduate degree program.

  • Opportunity to earn special scholarships designated to specific fields in CEOE.

Real-World Design Experience and Hands-On Projects

During your time at Stevens, you'll have the opportunity to work on industry-funded design projects under the co-supervision of faculty members and industry experts to gain experience working on real world problems. Senior year, you'll take part the nine-month Senior Design project – the culmination of the undergraduate engineering education.

Senior Design Projects

In Senior Design, you'll work with team of 3-5 students and professional industry mentors to develop innovative design solutions for infrastructure, structural and civil/site projects. Projects culminate in the annual Innovation Expo and are judged by faculty and experts.

Engineering Cooperative Education

Approximately 30% of undergraduate engineering students participate in the Stevens Cooperative Education Program, a five-year educational program that provides engineering and science students with the opportunity to alternate between semesters of full-time work and full-time study in areas related to the student's academic major and career interests.

Innovation Expo

The Stevens undergraduate experience culminates with Senior Design, a year-long collaborative project in which you will apply all they have learned to the solution of urgent, real-world problems, displayed at the annual Innovation Expo.

Accelerated Master's Program

Stevens' Accelerated Master's Program (AMP) enables you to apply credits from your undergraduate coursework toward a master’s degree, allowing you to earn your bachelor's and master's degrees in just five years.
