Stevens' School of Engineering Online Graduate Programs Continue Upward Trajectory in 2020 National Rankings

Online engineering and computer information technology graduate programs maintain its No. 1 rank in New Jersey

Working engineers and technical professionals seeking to advance in their careers often do not have the flexibility to bolster their knowledge and skills in physical classroom settings. Access to graduate programs at the leading edge of technology, like machine learning and artificial intelligence, can’t be found at every university. Steven's Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science brings the latest research of the faculty into the classroom and provides students everywhere the opportunity to advance their education and career, 100 percent online.

Stevens' online graduate offerings, for example, allow students to follow the same curriculum as their on-campus counterparts, with access to the same world-class faculty and their research. And according to the 2020 U.S. News Best Online Programs rankings, published today, Stevens online graduate programs are among the best in the nation.

"The quality of the online classes and the quality of the education you get in the Schaefer School is the same as you would get in an on-campus class,” said associate dean for graduate studies Rainer Martini. “We bring the latest research of the faculty into the classroom in areas like machine learning and artificial intelligence that you can’t get at other universities."

“We are proud of the continuing high reputation of our online programs—especially as online learning becomes more and more important,” he added.

Stevens' online graduate programs improved their national rankings across the board. The online engineering and computer information technology programs offered by the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science jumped up a spot in each category of this year's U.S. News Best Online Programs rankings.

“We want remote students to have access to the best that education can provide,” said dean Jean Zu. “Our online graduate degrees enable students across the world to access the same quality education that they would receive here on the Stevens campus.”

The Online Engineering Master's Program ranks No. 21 in the latest report. The following online engineering master's degree programs were included in this ranking: Computer Engineering, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, and Construction Management.

The Online Computer Information Technology Master's Programs ranks No. 7 in the latest report. The following online engineering master's degree programs were included in this ranking: Enterprise & Cloud Computing, Computer Science, and Machine Learning.

Among New Jersey colleges, Stevens continues to hold the No. 1 position for both its online graduate engineering and computer information technology programs.

An award-winning platform, world-class faculty: keys to Stevens' success

Each year, U.S. News and World Report ranks online graduate engineering programs based on the opinions of experts, including deans of engineering schools, department heads, and other academic officials. The continual rise of Stevens' online graduate programs reflects the positive reputation Stevens has among its peers.

Stevens' award-winning online learning platform and world-class faculty and cutting-edge research are driving Stevens' upward trajectory among the nation's best-ranked online graduate programs. The success of the online programs also reflects the school's commitment to developing exceptional educational experiences for graduate students, whether on campus or online.

Stevens' online engineering and computer information technology programs prepare students to lead in their chosen professions and confidently address critical societal challenges faced by engineers and scientists. Stevens’s campus is in Hoboken, NJ, directly across the Hudson River from New York City, a major hub for technology companies leading transformative innovation worldwide.
