New partnership advances the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative, creating clearer pathways and expanded support for community college students pursuing STEM degrees

Hoboken, N.J., March 5, 2026 — Stevens Institute of Technology today announced a new partnership with Hudson County Community College (HCCC), formalizing a new academic relationship designed to create seamless transfer pathways and expand access to STEM education for community college students in New Jersey. The two schools executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in January. This represents a significant milestone in the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative (STSSI).

The STSSI was launched with support from a prestigious grant awarded by the American Talent Initiative (ATI), backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, making Stevens one of just 16 institutions nationwide recognized for efforts to expand access and foster inclusive STEM education. The partnership with HCCC advances four core goals of the initiative: developing meaningful community college partnerships and pathways, providing robust advising from enrollment through graduation, delivering enhanced social and academic support for transfer students and growing scholarship funding for students from lower-income communities.

"Our partnership with Hudson County Community College reflects our deep commitment to building pathways for students who have worked hard and are ready to thrive at Stevens.”

Under the MOU, Stevens and HCCC will collaborate on identifying transfer pathways, mapping courses and prerequisites to give students a clear picture of how their academic work will transfer. Students from HCCC will gain access to exclusive early application scholarships and dedicated financial aid counseling. The partnership also opens doors for collaborative research initiatives and ongoing campus engagement events.

Hudson County Community College serves a diverse student population across Jersey City and surrounding communities in Hudson County, many of whom are first-generation college students. The partnership with Stevens provides these students with a direct, supported path to a nationally ranked research university.

“As STEM now has a growing role in almost every aspect of life, providing HCCC students with opportunities to pursue baccalaureate studies at one of the nation’s acclaimed STEM institutes is critical," said Christopher Reber, President of Hudson County Community College. "This partnership helps ensure students will be guided in developing clear pathways to studies at Stevens Institute of Technology and to attaining rewarding careers that benefit our community.”
