Fintech, short for financial technology, is one of the fastest-growing industries, combining finance, business and technology to create innovative products and services such as digital payments, blockchain solutions and artificial intelligence-powered financial tools. For high school students interested in entering the field, building a strong foundation in finance, accounting, economics, computer science, data analytics and information systems is an excellent starting point.
The Stevens Quantitative Finance undergraduate program emphasizes business, math, finance and computer science, preparing students for this exciting industry. Students gain traditional business knowledge in subjects like accounting, economics and data analytics as well as technical skills in areas such as programming, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Another great option is the Stevens Business and Technology undergraduate program, which integrates technology and analytics into a broad, flexible management education, empowering students to create impact immediately. Students learn to leverage technology to solve problems and data analytics to identify and capitalize on opportunities in any industry.
Students can take advantage of Stevens' Hoboken location, which is a 10-minute train ride to New York City, gaining valuable real-world experience by interning with banks, financial institutions, startups and technology companies. With our proximity to New York City, there are frequent networking events with industry professionals and alums, employer recruiting events and conferences. Students can further strengthen their resumes by joining finance clubs like The Scholars of Finance and technology clubs like the Business Intelligence and Analytics Club.
Because fintech is evolving rapidly, staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends is essential. The Center for Research toward Advancing Financial Technologies (CRAFT) at Stevens Institute of Technology is a leading hub for industry-connected fintech research. CRAFT is a university-industry research center housed within the Stevens School of Business that brings together faculty, students and corporate partners to address critical challenges in financial technology, artificial intelligence, blockchain, analytics and digital markets.
In 2026, CRAFT funded two projects that are vital to the future of finance: trustworthy AI systems for financial regulation and next-generation infrastructure for tokenized securities markets. Both projects will provide opportunities for Stevens students to participate directly in high-impact fintech research initiatives. The project teams recruit and engage graduate and undergraduate students to assist with research, development, data analysis, modeling and implementation activities throughout the duration of the projects as part of the CRAFT Talent Network.
By combining business knowledge with technical expertise and practical experience, Stevens students can position themselves for exciting fintech careers in digital banking, payments, financial analytics, blockchain, risk management and more.
