Stevens Soars to No. 59 in U.S. News & World Report’s National Universities Rankings

Stevens Institute of Technology ranks No. 59 among 422 national universities in the United States, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual “Best Colleges” rankings released today.  

Stevens made the largest year-over-year gain of any university ranked among the nation's top 100, advancing 21 places to move into the top 14% of nationally ranked institutions. 

The university also earned a new No. 36 ranking among 190 private national universities, placing Stevens among the top fifth of private institutions and making it the No. 2-ranked private national university in New Jersey. 

“These rankings are certainly gratifying, but what makes me most proud is the tremendous progress Stevens has made over an extended period of time in the substance of the work we do,” said Stevens President Nariman Farvardin. “Our rise in the U.S. News rankings, along with recognition from TIME and The Princeton Review, reflects the momentum we have built by strengthening our academic programs, expanding opportunities for our students, advancing our research and innovation and investing in the student experience.  

“This is the result of the extraordinary commitment of our faculty, staff and students, as well as the support of our alumni and friends,” continued Farvardin. “Together, we are building a university that is increasingly recognized for the quality of the education we provide and the outcomes our students achieve. The latest rankings reflect changes to the U.S. News methodology, which places greater emphasis on factors including student outcomes and social mobility. For Stevens, the recognition reflects the strengths that have long defined the Stevens experience — strong career and graduate-school outcomes, exceptional return on investment and continued investments in research, innovation and access. 

Innovative at the Core 

The university’s gains extend beyond its overall ranking. Stevens advanced 16 places to No. 32 in the Most Innovative Schools ranking, recognizing the university’s continued emphasis on technology, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary research and experiential learning. 

Advancing Social Mobility 

Stevens made significant progress in social mobility, advancing 80 places to No. 135 nationally. The recognition comes as the university continues to expand access to a Stevens education and strengthen pathways for students to achieve their academic and career goals.  

Reinforcing Strong ROI 

The university moved up five points to No. 65 in the Best Value rankings, underscoring the strong return on investment Stevens provides its students. 

The latest rankings reflect the strength of the Stevens student experience and graduate outcomes. Ninety-three percent of the Class of 2025 achieved their desired outcome — employment or graduate school — within six months of graduation. Notably, among employed graduates, 83% had completed at least one work experience before graduation, including an internship, co-op position or summer research experience. 

These outcomes extend across academic programs. Finance graduates reported a 97% career outcomes rate and an average salary of $91,700, while quantitative finance graduates reported a 100% outcomes rate and an average salary of $89,800. Graduates from the Among engineering and science disciplines, computer science and cybersecurity graduates reported the highest average salary at $97,400, while graduates in physics, mathematics, and civil, environmental and naval engineering reported 100% outcomes rates. Humanities, arts and social sciences graduates reported an 85% outcomes rate, reflecting the breadth of career pathways available across the Stevens curriculum. 

Academic Rankings on the Rise 

Stevens' strong national standing extends across institutional and academic categories. The university’s undergraduate business program rose 21 places to No. 129, while undergraduate engineering programs advanced five places to No. 72. Computer science ranked No. 88 nationally. 

The rankings come as Stevens continues to expand its academic and research capabilities. The university recently launched the School of Computing, bringing together foundational expertise in computing with disciplines across campus, including finance, life sciences and the arts. The school builds on Stevens' strengths in computer science and cybersecurity and introduces a new major in artificial intelligence. Research funding at Stevens reached a record $87 million this year, supporting high-impact work across disciplines. 

The U.S. News recognition builds on a growing list of national acknowledgments of Stevens' value and career outcomes. Stevens ranks No. 14 nationally in Georgetown University's 40-year ROI analysis. The university also earned the No. 30 spot among 500 institutions nationwide in TIME’s inaugural America’s Best Colleges of 2026–2027 ranking, was named to The Princeton Review's 2027 Best Colleges list and earned 4.5 out of 5 stars from Money Magazine.
