This course provides students with a hands-on introduction to fundamental research methods in biomedical engineering and healthcare-related fields. Students will learn how to formulate research questions, design experiments, collect data signals acquired from human subjects, and analyze data to study physiological processes.

During this two-week course, students will collect and analyze data using experimental methods such as electromyography (EMG), electrooculography (EOG), and electroencephalography (EEG). After gaining experience with each technique, students will identify, design, and conduct their own experiment to investigate a research question of interest. Students will process and analyze experimental data using tools such as MATLAB and Excel, translating raw signals into meaningful results. Upon completion of the course, students will have developed practical skills across the research workflow in biomedical engineering, including experimental design, data acquisition and analysis, and best practices for conducting human-subject research.
