Explore on-campus programs, training and workshops that engage community members on topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Office of DEI supports all students to engage on campus and in the world as inclusive leaders, advocates for students from underrepresented backgrounds and provides ongoing training and consultation for the Stevens community. The Office of DEI oversees the Intercultural Space, the Lore-El Center for Women’s Leadership, the Quiet Space and support services for the LGBTQ+ community.  

Mission:

To provide support and resources that center the needs and voices of underrepresented and underserved students, facilitate dialogues and educational workshops that promote inclusive leadership, and engage all Stevens students, faculty and staff in co-creating a socially conscious community.

Vision:

To cultivate a university culture of inclusive excellence which supports leaders who are uniquely prepared to create constructive and sustainable change in our interconnected world.

Objectives:

  • Identity Development: Create opportunities to learn about social identities, their socio-historical context, intersections with others, and personal meaning

  • Social Justice Education: Foster cultural consciousness through ongoing learning about systems of power, identities, and innovative practices for inclusion and equity

  • Community-Building: Connect intracultural and intercultural communities through dialogues, multicultural celebrations, networking, and civic engagement

  • Empowerment: Support underrepresented students in developing the cultural capital (awareness of resources, access to knowledge, mentoring opportunities), sense of belonging, and validation needed to thrive at Stevens and beyond

  • Allyship: Cultivate a community of allies through expanding awareness of inequities, developing empathy and engaging in collaborative action

Annual Events

History & Heritage Months and Awareness Weeks – The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, in collaboration with various student groups and campus departments, hosts a number of educational programs and celebratory events during include Black History Month, Women's History Month, Latinx Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Filipino American History Month, Asian, Pacific Islander and Desi American Heritage Month, and more.

Affinity Gatherings – These gatherings seek to provide an affinity-like space to build community across campus for Stevens students, staff, and faculty. 

National Coming Out Day – An internationally-observed celebratory event to recognize and provide solidarity to members of the LGBTQ community. National Coming Out Day is on October 11, the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. 

Stevens Pride Week – Sponsored by Torch Alliance, oSTEM, TranSIT, Athletics and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, this celebratory event strives to provide resources and affirm LGBTQ+ students at Stevens. 

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Lending Library

Filled with books, comics, DVDs, and games, our growing lending library is available to all Stevens students, faculty and staff. Interested in checking something out? Contact the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion or visit the library in the Intercultural Space on the 2nd floor of the University Center. 

Workshops & Trainings

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion offers a variety of workshops and trainings. Spanning a variety of topics, these opportunities for learning help to build an inclusive community of informed students, faculty and staff ready to create positive change.
