The Computer Science program in the Stevens School of Computing is committed to being a world leader both in education and research. We aim to achieve this by conducting research that advances computer science to benefit of society and by educating students to become leaders in the development and application of computer science technology.
Computer Science at Stevens Institute of Technology is one of the largest and fastest-growing departments at the university and the cornerstone of the Stevens School of Computing.
The program strives to nurture the next generation of computer scientists who will be prepared to enter a rapidly growing technology field. In addition to our emphasis on problem-solving skills and theoretical foundations, we instill our students with hands-on programming experience and necessary business skills. Our students are immersed in the integration of science, technology and project-management skills that the field requires.
The program boasts numerous globally recognized tenured and tenure-track faculty who participate in interdisciplinary research and development. Our faculty researchers focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer vision, big data analytics, programming languages, computer security and cryptography, and software systems, providing our students with a wide variety of areas in which to conduct research and learn. Many of our researchers have received prestigious awards (including the NSF CAREER Award) and control several million dollars in active research funding.

Beginning with his work at Bell Laboratories following graduation from the Institute, Stevens Trustee Emeritus David Farber ’56 M.S. ’61 Hon. D.Eng. ’99 contributed to programming languages and networking that helped pioneer early internet and cloud computing.
