Below you will find the criteria required for exemption and waiver consideration for English Language Proficiency and GRE/GMAT requirements. Please read through carefully and if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact [email protected].
English Language Proficiency Requirement
Exemptions
Applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria do not need to provide evidence of English proficiency:
Native language is English
Earned or will have earned a Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university before enrollment at Stevens.
Earned or will have earned a Master's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university before enrollment at Stevens.
Completed or will complete at least two years of full-time graduate study at a U.S. college/university before enrollment at Stevens.
For applicants, who fall in any of the categories above, the English language proficiency requirement will automatically be waived after the submission of the graduate application.
Waivers
Applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria may request that the English language proficiency requirement be waived:
If, before enrollment at Stevens, they will have:
Earned a Bachelor's degree from a college/university outside the U.S. that uses English as the language of instruction.
Completed two years of full-time graduate study at a college/university outside the U.S. that uses English as the language of instruction.
Earned a master's degree from a college/university outside the U.S. that uses English as the language of instruction.
Completed the first two years of a Bachelor's degree program internationally and completed the final two years of a Bachelor's degree program at an accredited U.S. college/university.
To request the waiver of the proof of English language proficiency, applicants must provide an official document from their college/university that states that the language of instruction in their program was English. Please upload this document through the applicant status page, using the material name "TOEFL/IELTS Waiver Request." Once we receive your document, a Graduate Admissions Advisor will discuss the next steps with you, which might include an interview in lieu of an English test. Note that while you may request an English proficiency requirement waiver, a waiver may not be granted. If the English language proficiency requirement is waived you will need to complete the Stevens English Communication Proficiency Exam (ECPE) upon arrival on campus. There is a fee associated with the ECPE exam.
