Stevens Institute of Technology and Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea Team Up to Offer Dual Master’s Degrees in Sports and Technology

Stevens and Real Madrid Graduate School’s agreement marks first such collaboration between an American and Spanish university

(Hoboken, N.J. – May 19, 2021) – Succeeding in sports requires both talent and technology, which is why Stevens Institute of Technology and Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea (EURM-UE) are teaming up.

Starting in August 2021, graduate students will have the unique opportunity to accelerate their education and earn two master’s degrees within two to three semesters while benefiting from residencies on both campuses in Hoboken, N.J., and Madrid, Spain. Students can pursue a master’s degree from Stevens in business administration, business intelligence and analytics or information systems, while earning a graduate degree in sports technologies and digital transformation from Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea.

Students will also benefit from professional internships under the framework of Real Madrid Next, a collaboration of start-up and established companies and Real Madrid C. F., as well as have opportunities to engage with professionals and managers of the Real Madrid C. F. professional soccer club.

The collaboration will provide students with a practical and in-depth knowledge and proficiency in the latest technologies used in sports, including data analysis, virtual reality, blockchain and geolocation, while considering the importance in applying the right strategies to achieve optimal performance.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Real Madrid Graduate School, one of the biggest names in the sports world, and offer these programs with Universidad Europea. As technology and analytics continue to transform the sports industry, these degrees will prepare our students for exciting and innovative opportunities in this ever-changing landscape,” said Gregory Prastacos, dean of the School of Business at Stevens.

Students will begin the program at Stevens for the core subject courses and at Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea for sports performance and big data and AI in sports management. Following completion, the students will travel to EURM-UE in Madrid for five weeks for an additional three courses, including smart venues, sports technologies context and an immersive internship. In addition, they’ll receive an invitation to the White Week, an annual summer celebrity sports event for students, with masterclasses and networking opportunities promoting entrepreneurialism, teamwork, integrity, leadership and excellence at Real Madrid C. F. Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

According to Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid C. F. director of institutional relations and general manager of the Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea, “this agreement reinforces our commitment to offering students an international education of the highest quality together with pioneering institutions in their respective sectors, such as Stevens Institute of Technology.”
