Stevens Earns National Recognition for Commitment to Student Wellness
2025 Campus Prevention Network Seal of Prevention highlights university's comprehensive digital prevention programs and decade-long investment in student safety and wellbeing
Stevens Institute of Technology has been honored with the 2025 Campus Prevention Network (CPN) Seal of Prevention™, national recognition for the university's comprehensive approach to student safety, wellness and community building.
Presented by Vector Solutions, the CPN Seal recognizes institutions that demonstrate exceptional commitment to evidence-based digital prevention education addressing critical issues including sexual assault, substance misuse, and mental health. Over 1,400 campuses and organizations were evaluated nationwide, with Stevens distinguished for its multifaceted prevention programming and sustained investment in student well-being.
Stevens' recognition reflects a comprehensive suite of digital prevention initiatives extending well beyond standard requirements. In addition to foundational courses in Title IX, hazing prevention, alcohol education and mental well-being for all undergraduate and graduate students, Stevens has expanded its prevention programming to include specialized training in career readiness, leadership development and community engagement. These additional modules include Graduate Leadership Labs through Graduate Student Life, active shooter preparedness training coordinated with campus police and fraternity and sorority life. The university is currently developing undergraduate student leader training and a graduate career accelerator to further support student success and safety.
"At Stevens, we are focused on fostering a sense of community and creating pathways for each student to find their place within our campus environment," said Sara Klein, vice president for student affairs. "This recognition reflects a coordinated effort by faculty, staff and students to facilitate a shared culture of wellness, inclusion and student success."
The CPN Seal evaluation criteria are based on established Principles of Effective Prevention Programs, examining factors including program reach, cultural relevance, outcomes evaluation and comprehensiveness. Nationally, institutions receiving the seal demonstrate measurably stronger outcomes, with an average 8.3% higher first-year retention rate and 9.6% higher on-time graduation rate compared to non-seal institutions.
This latest recognition builds on Stevens' established track record in student wellness. In 2022, Active Minds recognized Stevens as "one of the healthiest college campuses in the nation" with its prestigious Healthy Campus Award. Stevens staff initiated and co-chaired the inaugural New Jersey Higher Education Mental Health Summit in 2024, then hosted the second annual Summit in January 2025, welcoming over 500 participants from 54 colleges and universities statewide to further explore strategies to address the college student mental heath crisis.
Stevens' approach to student wellness combines digital prevention and education with robust on-campus resources, peer support networks and campus-wide training for faculty and staff to identify and assist students in distress. The university's comprehensive Counseling and Psychological Services offers multilingual counselors, telehealth options, walk-in appointments and a 24/7 call center, ensuring students have multiple pathways to support.
"We've woven this support into the fabric of the institution," Klein said. "We ensure that there are support networks and safety nets everywhere that students turn."
