Thomas King M.Eng. ’16 is founder of TK Fabricate, a Net Zero housing solutions partner. The company’s new state-of-the-art “hydropod” utilizes energy-saving technology developed in Europe to reduce energy usage in large buildings. King notes that heat pumps in the hydropods can extract heat from the air, even in temperatures as low as 15 degrees below zero and reduce energy usage by up to 75%. A key advantage of the hydropod system: its ability to provide heating, cooling, air filtration and hot water in one easy-to-install unit. Ten hydropods have been installed in Christopher Court, an affordable apartment complex in Phoenix, New York, and eight were installed last summer in student housing at Syracuse University.
