Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a federal holiday designated by Congress as a National Day of Service: a “day on, not a day off.” At Stevens, we honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy with a full Week of Service, taking place January 19–23, 2026. This fifth annual initiative invites students, faculty, staff and alumni to engage more deeply in service, learning and reflection.
Throughout the week, guest speakers and facilitators will explore the power of community action in advancing equality, justice and social change. Volunteers will also partner with local organizations, putting Dr. King’s call to serve directly into practice. Our featured event — the annual MLK Keynote, Oratorical Contest Awards and Dinner — will bring the community together to uplift student voices and hear powerful perspectives inspired by Dr. King’s teachings.
Together, these experiences are designed to help participants:
Articulate the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and understand how service and social action contribute to equality and justice today.
Explain the concept of the Beloved Community and examine its relevance for building inclusive communities of belonging.
Reflect on their own values and lived experiences to better understand how personal purpose shapes their approach to community engagement.
Identify one meaningful way to contribute to a more connected and caring community.
