Requesting J-1 Sponsorship for Scholars/Faculty

When making a request for J-1 Exchange Visitor (EV) sponsorship for a foreign national to engage in a period of paid or unpaid research, teaching, or other academic activities in the interest of international educational and cultural exchange, please keep in mind that the visa application process in many countries can take 4-8 weeks and even longer in some cases. To ensure that the EV arrives at Stevens by the desired program start date, and to avoid duplicative work and excessive shipping costs, the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Office strongly recommends that all requests for sponsorship are made as early as possible and no later than three months prior to the desired program
start date.
Once all required documents have been received by ISSS, ISSS will process the Form(s) DS-2019 (the government document required for the visa application) in 7 to 10 business days and will mail it using an express mailing service directly to the prospective EV. The mailing will include additional information to assist the prospective EV with their visa application and preparation for their time in the U.S.
