Temporary Accommodations

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) can assist students who have a temporary injury or condition. Examples may include concussions, broken bones, injuries requiring surgery, acute illnesses and pregnancy.

Requesting Temporary Accommodations

Assistance is determined on a case-by-case, class-by-class basis, and will depend upon the nature of each course — how each course is taught and how this affects the student’s functional limitations.

Temporary accommodations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Accommodations for reading and/or writing

  • Accommodations for taking exams and/or quizzes if the injury impacts the student’s ability to write.

  • Referral to campus and/or community resources.

Since temporary conditions can occur at any point during the semester, the timing can significantly impact the adjustment options available to the student. Timely and open communication with the ODS, faculty, and other campus offices about requested assistance is needed. Students with temporary injuries or conditions are encouraged to contact the ODS to determine accommodation options as soon as possible.
