Submitting Test Scores

Stevens Institute of Technology is extending its SAT/ACT test optional policy, with specific exceptions noted below. This policy applies to first-year and transfer applicants for entry terms through Fall 2029. The policy will be continuously evaluated, and any updates will be communicated with adequate notice.

How Test Scores are Considered

  • Holistic review: Standardized testing is one element of Stevens' comprehensive and holistic application review. On the application, students must indicate whether they intend to submit test scores.

  • Optional, but may help: While submitting test scores is optional, applicants who feel their scores reflect their academic abilities and college readiness are encouraged to include them, as these may strengthen their application. Please refer to Stevens’ admissions statistics to review the current middle 50% scores for the most recent entering class.

  • Self-reporting and official scores: Applicants who choose to self-report test scores must also submit official score reports from the testing agency as part of their application.

Test Score and Language Proficiency

  • Superscoring: Stevens considers the highest section scores across test dates, whether a superscored SAT or superscored ACT. Stevens does not prefer one exam over the other.

  • SAT versions: Results from the current redesigned SAT and/or the old SAT will be accepted; we will consider only the highest testing results reported from one version of the test, not by combining sections across both versions.

  • English proficiency: The test optional plan does not eliminate the need for demonstrated language proficiency. Non-native English-speaking students will still be required to submit results from an English language proficiency exam (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT EBRW or Duolingo).

Required Scores for Specific Programs

  • Accelerated Pre-Medicine or Pre-Law: SAT or ACT scores are required.

  • Pinnacle Scholars Program: Starting for the incoming Fall 2027 class, students must submit SAT, ACT and/or AP scores to be considered.

    • For consideration on which AP scores to submit, please refer to Stevens’ website for AP courses and scores that will be accepted for credit.

  • Once you submit your application, you will receive more information via email about what is required.
