Scholarship Honors Beloved Son
Todd Sheridan was a loving son, devoted friend, cherished teammate, skilled engineer, and proud alum from the Class of 2010. He had a never-quit approach to everything, but his essence lives on in those he touched, and in the Todd M. Sheridan ’10 Pinnacle Scholarship started by his parents, Betty and Jack Sheridan ’67.
The darker the night, the brighter the stars, the deeper the grief, the closer is God.
In those words of Dostoyevsky, Betty and Jack Sheridan look for comfort. On August 8, 2020, they lost their son Todd.
Todd was a loving son, devoted friend, cherished teammate, skilled engineer and proud alum from the Class of 2010. At Stevens, many mourn with the Sheridans.
“I shared incredible memories with Todd both on and off the field,” said John Radvany ’10, who was Todd’s roommate and soccer teammate. “He possessed a positive energy and charisma treasured by all who had the privilege to know him. His resilient leadership and grit inspired our teammates and helped us achieve so much during our four years together.”
Todd was a soccer star. He was selected for three All-Empire 8 Conference teams, and he remains in the top-ten in Stevens history for career goals and points.
“Todd embodied everything great about Stevens,” said Zach Carr ’11. “He was extremely talented as a player, but was an even better leader, friend, and teammate. I will remember most how he motivated us to succeed and led by example every day.”
“I could talk about Todd all day,” said Coach Tim O’Donohue. “I loved him so much. He was everything you want as a coach, not only on the field, but off the field as well. He was just a great guy. A big personality, and you could not help but adore him. He was a special person, and all of his coaches and teammates will always love and remember him.”
Todd was born on December 3, 1987 and spent his formative years in Hillsborough, New Jersey. He was a soccer star for the Hillsborough Blackhawks and won many big games for the team, including the Virginia Cup, a sign of things to come for his success as a Stevens Duck. In 6th grade, Todd’s family moved to nearby Mullica Hill. After leading St. Augustine Prep to two state titles, graduating with honors, he enrolled at the same college where his father graduated in 1967.
At Stevens, Todd was named to the dean’s list every year and received the Hal Raveche Award for combining academic and athletic excellence with the ability to lead in the classroom and in competition. As a senior he also earned the Joel Crouch Award for his contributions to the men’s soccer program.
Todd graduated with honors with a degree in civil engineering and later earned a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Texas. He completed his PE license, worked on meaningful projects in New Jersey and Manhattan, and was an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He loved coaching youth soccer.
In December 2020, Betty and Jack, with Todd’s siblings Carrie and JJ, established the Todd M. Sheridan ’10 Pinnacle Scholarship. Their generosity will help talented students, the beloved children of other families, realize their dreams, just like Todd.
Just as they seek comfort in soothing words, may Betty, Jack, Carrie and JJ ease their grief in knowing the legacy of their son and brother will endure. In the darkened night, Todd will always be their brightest star.
