Network Core Infrastructure Upgrade
Overview
The Network Core Upgrade project will modernize the institution's core networking infrastructure by replacing existing core switches with new, high-performance equipment designed to support current and future network demands. The upgraded core network will deliver enhanced performance, reliability, scalability, and advanced networking capabilities while providing a foundation for continued growth across the campus.
Key Benefits
Improved Performance and Faster Bandwidth
The new core network switches will significantly increase available bandwidth capacity, upgrading backbone connections from 40 Gbps to 100 Gbps. This tenfold increase in network throughput will improve the speed and responsiveness of network services, support growing data demands, and provide the capacity required for future technology initiatives.
Increased Reliability and Network Redundancy
Additional high-speed network links will provide multiple network paths across the campus. This design enhances resilience by maintaining service availability in the event of hardware failures or network disruptions.
Greater Scalability
The upgraded infrastructure is designed to accommodate future expansion and increased network utilization. The additional capacity and advanced switching capabilities will support new services, emerging technologies, and continued growth across the campus community.
Enhanced Network Capabilities
Modern core switching platforms provide improved performance, advanced features, and greater operational flexibility, enabling more efficient network management and supporting evolving business and academic requirements.
Project Implementation
The Networking Team is partnering with a consulting firm to install the new core switches, pre-stage configurations, and prepare for monitoring, all while operating in parallel with the existing production environment.
The Network Core Upgrade represents a significant investment in the institution's technology infrastructure. By increasing backbone bandwidth from 40 Gbps to 100 Gbps, improving redundancy through dual-homed building connections, and deploying a more scalable and reliable networking platform, the project will enhance network performance, strengthen service availability, and position the campus for future growth.
