Location: Babbio Center, Room 219

Speaker: Igor Kuskovsky, Chair, Department of Physics, Queens College

ABSTRACT

I will present the major milestones of our work on type-II Zn(Cd)Te quantum dots embedded in a Zn(Cd)Se matrix, with an emphasis on the excitonic Aharonov–Bohm effect and our model of its decoherence. I will also discuss our recent work on intermediate-band solar cells (IBSC). The presentation will focus on magneto-photoluminescence (magneto-PL) studies of ZnTe/ZnSe quantum dots, as well as recent PL investigations of the CdTe/ZnCdSe system suitable for the IBSCs, complemented by high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) analysis and modeling of broadband reflectors.

BIOGRAPHY

I received my B.S. in Theoretical Physics from Odessa National University, Ukraine, in 1991, and my Ph.D. in Applied Physics (Solid State Physics) from Columbia University in 1998, under the supervision of Professor Gertrude Neumark. Following my Ph.D., I remained at Columbia University as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist until joining the faculty of Queens College in 2004. From 2014 to 2020, I served as an Executive Officer of the CUNY Ph.D. Program in Physics. I currently serve as Chair of the Department of Physics at Queens College.
