Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series: PFAS Treatment Design for Drinking Water Systems

ABSTRACT
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are persistent synthetic chemicals that have become a major regulatory and treatment challenge in the drinking water sector. Sources of PFAS contamination include industrial discharges, landfills, firefighting foams, and wastewater systems. PFAS compounds accumulate in the body over time, and exposure has been linked to multiple adverse health outcomes, including reduced immune function and increased cancer risk. In order to minimize these risks, treatment processes for the removal of PFAS compounds from drinking water are being implemented to remove these harmful contaminants from drinking water. This presentation will cover various PFAS treatment processes, and design considerations when implementing them in a drinking water system.
BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Solomon is an engineer with 2 years of experience in Water Resources engineering, with a focus on drinking water treatment design. Mr. Solomon obtained his BS in Civil Engineering and his MS in Environmental Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
At H2M, Mr. Solomon has worked on multiple PFAS treatment projects and Lead Service Line replacement projects. He also supports the firm’s Sustainability Employee Resources Group, assisting in development of H2M’s internal sustainability practices.
