Applying Early Decision to your First-Choice University

DEFINITION: There are several factors to consider when applying to any college or university under the Early Decision Plan. As an Early Decision candidate, you will apply earlier than the traditional applicant, in this case at Stevens Institute of Technology, your first‐choice school. However, the Early Decision Plan is a binding agreement between the student and Stevens by which the student commits to attend the university if admitted. By proceeding Early Decision, you agree to:

  • Withdraw all applications from other institutions once admitted

  • Not initiate any new applications at other institutions

  • Enroll, and attend Stevens the following fall by submitting a $500 non-refundable tuition deposit by the date noted in our admissions timeline

You may only apply to one college or university under an Early Decision plan. Applying to more than one school through Early Decision is a violation of the Plan.

When you apply Early Decision, you agree to attend Stevens if admitted, typically before reviewing financial aid offers from other schools. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you explore each school’s Net Price Calculator and/or tuition costs before submitting an Early Decision application. We also recommend you carefully consider whether Early Decision is right for you. If you think you’ll want to compare admissions offers or financial aid packages from several schools later in the spring, or if you plan to include mid-year grades or other updates in your application, it may be better to apply under a different plan.

If you apply as an Early Decision candidate to Stevens, your application will be evaluated using the same competitive criteria as those who apply as a non-Early Decision applicant. Admission decisions are based on all materials submitted by the deadline, including your application and essay, high school transcript, recommendation letters, official test scores (if applicable) and admissions interview (if completed). Submission of an Early Decision application does not guarantee admission or increase or ensure your likelihood of admission.
