Stevens is one of four universities to share a $1.5 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. Led by Professor Henry Du (photo at top left), associate dean for research and faculty development in the School of Engineering and Science, and Professor Yuping Huang, director of Stevens’ Center for Quantum Science and Engineering, Stevens joins a multi-university effort charged with coming up with a less costly and more sustainable way to detect and degrade “forever chemicals” (PFAS and PFOS) in soil and water using quantum and materials science techniques.
Choudur Lakshminarayan, a statistics professor with the School of Business and affiliated with the Stevens Institute for Artificial Intelligence, was recently elected to the International Statistical Institute. Elected members come from academia, government, national statistical offices, national banks and industry. They receive invitations to participate in conferences and workshops, as well as give keynote presentations at events around the world. It is the second major career accolade for Lakshminarayan: In 2022, he was named a fellow of the American Statistical Association, a title achieved by only 0.3% of eligible members each year.
