Abstract
ACTT: The Professional Skills That Set You Apart in the World of AI
As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly automates many technical tasks, human interaction skills will give you a greater competitive edge. This workshop is grounded in findings from workplace and career-readiness studies, as well as direct insight from current employers in the medical device industry, to identify the skills that consistently separate standout candidates from the rest. In this session, we will introduce ACTT, a practical framework centered on Attitude, Communication, Teamwork, and Taking action, which is designed to help students accelerate their career growth and thrive alongside AI. Through real-world case studies and practical examples, you will explore how cultivating a growth mindset, articulating yourself clearly, collaborating across diverse teams, and demonstrating proactive initiative translate into high-impact career growth. At the end of the session, students will actively build their own personalized roadmap with a concrete action plan to stand out in internships, job interviews, and early career roles.
Biography
Dr. Sally F. Shady has worked in industry for several years designing and developing medical devices. During her doctoral research at the University of Massachusetts, she investigated the synthesis and characterization of core shell nanospheres encapsulated with antibiotics that were implanted into a contact lens. She continued with post-doctoral research work at the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) while teaching engineering courses. From 2013 to 2016, she joined Wentworth Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering department. She taught courses in medical device design, biomechanics, biomaterials and senior capstone. Her interests are in biomechanics, biomaterials and enhancing medical device design through teaching pedagogy.
Recently, she has taken interest in providing medical solutions in the pediatric medical device domain.
