CAMPUS BASED INITIATIVES

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – A Core Value and a Strategic Goal

The Stevens Strategic plan details the core values embedded throughout all that we do and emphasizes that we are one Stevens community.

Overall, we strive to ensure that all members of our community feel welcome, are included and have opportunities to succeed. We work individually and collectively to advance our university and members of our community while engendering pride in our affiliation with Stevens.

As a global community, we are committed to recruiting a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty, while cultivating inclusive learning and working environments where people of all backgrounds can thrive. To maximize efforts to achieve these shared goals, many campus initiatives are the result of collaborations across Stevens’ units.

Strategic efforts toward these goals have existed at Stevens for decades. Some recent collaborations include:

  • Inclusive Workplace Workshops - designed and facilitated by Stevens faculty to help employees learn and practice strategies that foster inclusion through the use of critical incidents and collaborative decision-making. School of Business, Office of the President

  • ONGIG – A text analyzing tool that provides suggestions on how to remove biased language and gendered words from your writing.  Job postings at Stevens are reviewed through ONGIG to reach the most potential candidates. Divisions of Human Resources, Office of the President

  • NameCoach – A university-wide initiative to foster belonging and inclusion by providing the technology to share and search audio clip name pronunciations of faculty, students, and staff. Office of the President, Division of Information Technology

  • Faculty Tips for Inclusive Engagement To build strong faculty-student interactions and create supportive and inclusive learning environments, research-based tips with additional resources are available to all faculty. Office of the President, Office of Faculty Development
