SOAR: Stevens Overview of Advising and Registration

Stevens StudentsSOAR is an informational course housed in Canvas, the learning management system (LMS) used at Stevens. Canvas offers access to course content and key tools to help you stay connected, organized and learning throughout your college career. Canvas is accessible through the myStevens portal at my.stevens.edu. You can find more information on how to access Canvas here.

SOAR provides the information you need to create your first class schedule. There is a required assignment to complete SOAR by submitting the Completion Acknowledgment assignment within the course. The Completion Acknowledgement is due July 5. Not completing this assignment can lead to a hold on your account, blocking course registration.

If you have any academic questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academics at [email protected] or 201.216.5288.

Course Registration: Your Class Schedule

To prepare for course registration, academic advising sessions are provided during the week of July 20-24. Advising sessions are listed by school and department in SOAR and Zoom links are provided. Some departments house several academic programs and advisors work with all students in the department.

Please see sample course lists for each major in SOAR. Students register themselves via Workday, accessible through the myStevens portal at my.stevens.edu.

Fall semester course registration for new students is slated for July 27-31. The courses a student registers for are based on intended major and any AP, IB and college credits earned. The deadline to send in AP/IB credit is July 8. See more information in the sections below.

To help with a seamless scheduling process, all major change requests must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at [email protected] by July 15. There are no school-to-school changes permitted after this date, although changes in the same school may be considered. To inquire after July 15, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academics at [email protected].

Transfer Credits: AP, IB and College Coursework

Incoming first-year students may only receive up to 30 college credits toward a Stevens degree through College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examination scores, International Baccalaureate examination scores (IB), or for college-level courses already taken while in high school, combined. If you have completed more than 30 credits cumulatively between AP, IB and college-level courses, please understand that although all courses may have equivalents at Stevens, you will only be able to apply 30 credits to your degree.

AP Credit and IB Credit

Stevens participates in the Advanced Placement (AP) program of the College Entrance Examination Board. Send your official AP exam scores to Stevens through the College Board, using the school code 2819. Visit our AP/IB and College Transfer Credit website for additional details. If you have any questions after reviewing this information, you can email us at [email protected].

College Coursework

To submit courses from other colleges and universities for review, access your Stevens Workday Student account and follow these instructions.

Math Assessment

All incoming students in the majors below are required to complete an online math assessment, due July 1.

The math assessment must be completed by students in the following majors:

  • All Engineering majors

  • Biology, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, Physics

  • Quantitative Finance

  • Quantitative Social Science

The results of this assessment provide us with a measure of preparedness in topics we consider to be essential for succeeding in a university calculus course. Information on which math courses you should register for, based on this assessment, will be emailed in mid-July. Please note that the results of your math assessment will not affect your option to enroll in MA 125 if you receive AP, IB or college credit for the courses MA 121 and MA 122.

Please see more details on the math assessment in SOAR.
