Image of Michael ParenteMichael Parente, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information OfficerMichael Parente was appointed Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer in 2025, following his service as Interim Vice President and CIO beginning a year earlier. He brings a deep and comprehensive understanding of the higher education IT landscape, having more than two decades of impact in the information technology field advancing technology strategy, enterprise infrastructure and digital transformation.

As CIO, Mr. Parente leads the information technology organization which is responsible for the full portfolio of centrally delivered services, including enterprise applications, data and analytics, platform integration, systems and network engineering, research computing, learning technology, academic multimedia, client support, project management and information security. He guides Stevens’ IT strategy and operations, ensuring that technology infrastructure, systems and services effectively support the university’s mission of excellence in education, research and innovation.

Mr. Parente’s areas of expertise span IT strategy and governance, enterprise resource planning, data management and analytics, identity and access management, cybersecurity and risk management, cloud platforms and systems integration. He is widely recognized for his collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and his ability to align technology initiatives with institutional priorities through strong partnerships with academic and administrative leadership.

Prior to becoming CIO, Mr. Parente served in a series of progressively senior leadership roles at Stevens, including Assistant Vice President for Information Technology and Director of Enterprise Information Systems. Earlier in his career, he held several technical roles in the applications, systems administration and database administration spaces, both at Stevens and for a period of time in the financial services sector at Citigroup.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Parente has led major institutional initiatives including the implementation of the Workday ecosystem; the transition from a legacy student information system; the creation of a new cloud-based data warehouse and business intelligence function to support centralized data insights; the establishment of several university governance frameworks; the modernization of the external website and intranet; the deployment of an enterprise identity and access management capability; the expansion of high-performance research computing; and the development of a strategy for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in administrative operations, teaching and research.

Mr. Parente is a two-time Stevens alumnus, holding a Master of Engineering in Networked Information Systems and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering.
