Hugo Neu Corporation Sustainability Seminar Series: Moving from Gray to Green for Stormwater Management

ABSTRACT
Engineers have long relied on "grey infrastructure" (concrete and steel based) to manage stormwater runoff, but the use of "green infrastructure" (relying on plants and soil) is becoming expected practice. This presentation will explain the advantages of green infrastructure and challenges associated with its widespread adoption.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Kirk Barrett is water engineer with over 35 years’ experience, specializing in surface/wetland hydrology, hydraulics and water quality processes. He holds a doctoral degree in environmental engineering from Northwestern University and is a licensed Professional Engineer, a Certified Floodplain Manager and Professional Wetland Scientist. He has retired from active practice and now serves as the President of the Rahway River Watershed Association.
