Graduate Student Emergency Fund

The Graduate Student Emergency Fund is intended to provide financial assistance to Stevens graduate students who are facing emergency situations and unforeseen financial hardship. Awards from this fund may be up to $1,500. Examples of emergency situations and unforeseen financial hardship may include: 

  • Medical, dental, or mental health emergencies 

  • Accidents and events, such as an apartment fire 

  • Being the victim of a crime, such as a robbery 

Students who are experiencing financial difficulties that exceed the scope of this fund should provide a detailed explanation along with supporting documentation to substantiate the request.

Eligibility

  • Students must be enrolled full-time in an on-campus Stevens graduate degree program.

  • Students must be in good academic and University standing.

  • Funding is not guaranteed.

  • Each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • We encourage you to research all of your options before requesting support through this program.

  • This funding is not for things for which you can plan.

  • Funds provided through this program may be subject to applicable taxes and/or Internal Revenue Services (IRS) guidelines.

Application Process

To be considered for financial assistance from the Graduate Student Emergency Fund, you must submit the online screening form. Upon receipt, your screening form will be reviewed for eligibility and you will receive the application via email requesting: 

  • A brief statement describing the emergency situation or one-time, unusual, or unforeseen expense and the total dollar amount of emergency funds being requested. 

  • Budget detailing the amount of emergency funding requested, a list of current expenses and an itemized list of how the funds will be used, and your financial situation including sources of income and other available funding.

  • Documentation to support the request - examples include Police Report, Eviction Notice, hospital bills, etc.


All applications will receive a response via email within 5 business days. You may be asked to provide additional information or documentation.
