Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone) Use on Campus

Recreational Use

Please be advised that recreational use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) – commonly known as drones -- is not permitted in any location on Stevens’ Campus.

Research or Employment Related Use

Any University employee or student who wishes to operate a UAV as part of University research or employment must first obtain authorization from Stevens. Stevens, in turn, must obtain approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To seek approval from Stevens, interested persons must first obtain approval from the appropriate department or division, and school, prior to bringing the request to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. Each request will require review by the Office of General Counsel, prior to submission to the FAA. Authorization for any request must include sufficient funds to support the FAA approval process.

Non-Compliance

Any UAV use other than as permitted by these guidelines will be referred to Campus Police and may be the subject of disciplinary measures.
