Graduate Student Emergency Fund

The Graduate Student Emergency Fund is intended to provide financial assistance to Stevens graduate students who are facing emergency situations and unforeseen financial hardship. Awards from this fund may be up to $2,500. Examples or emergency situations and unforeseen financial hardship may include: 

  • Medical, dental, or mental health emergencies 

  • Accidents and events, such as an apartment fire 

  • Being the victim of a crime, such as a robbery 

  • Expenses related to a family emergency

Students who are experiencing financial difficulties that exceed the scope of this fund should request a meeting with Graduate Student Life ([email protected]) to address the difficulties they are experiencing.

Eligibility

  • Students must be enrolled full-time in a Stevens graduate degree program and be in good academic standing to be considered for this award. 

  • Doctoral students are limited to two (2) Emergency Fund awards throughout their graduate career.

  • Masters students are limited to one (1) Emergency Fund awards throughout their graduate career.

  • Students who are on a Leave of Absence are eligible if they were in good academic standing at the beginning of the leave period and have an approved plan for return to active study at the conclusion of the leave period.

  • Funding is not guaranteed.

  • Each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

  • We encourage you to research all of your options before requesting support through this program.

  • Funding options offered (loan vs. grant) will depend on the request.

  • This funding is not for things for which you can plan.

  • Funds provided through this program may be subject to applicable taxes.

Application Process

To be considered for financial assistance from the Graduate Student Emergency Fund, you must submit the online application, including: 

  • Brief statement describing the emergency situation or one-time, unusual, or unforeseen expense and the total dollar amount of emergency funds being requested. 

  • Budget detailing the amount of emergency funding requested, a list of current expenses and an itemized list of how the funds will be used, and your financial situation including sources of income and other available funding.

All applications will receive a response via email within 5 business days. You may be asked to provide additional information or documentation.
