The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation. It is a unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and several locations internationally. The Commission is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations and resources. It examines each institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within institutions.

The second exam is the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam. The FE exam is open to anyone with a degree in engineering or related field or currently enrolled in the last year of an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering degree program. The New Jersey licensure board permits students to take the FE prior to their final year. The exam is administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure can vary from state to state.
