Eleven New Faculty Join the Stevens School of Business
Hiring top faculty has always been one of the highest priorities at the Stevens School of Business (SSB). This year I am particularly pleased to introduce 11 new full-time faculty, in disciplines covering most of the critical areas of business: accounting, analytics, economics, finance, fintech, human resources management, information systems, management, marketing, and organizational behavior.
These new faculty will strengthen our booming academic and research activities, while also opening new opportunities for growth. They will address exciting research in topics such as fairness in an AI-dominated world; machine learning algorithms to support decisions in a wide range of industries; labor economics and the effect of skill specialization on job mobility and wages; social media and data analytics in accounting and corporate disclosures; leadership and responsible behavior; corporate innovation; consumer well-being, consumer happiness and prosocial behavior; leadership, workplace relationships, and workplace emotions; creativity and entrepreneurship; and many more. They will teach our talented students, contribute to our cutting-edge research centers, and actively participate in academic-industry collaborations.

Violet (Xinying) Chen
Assistant Professor of Analytics and Information Systems
Violet (Xinying) Chen received her PhD in Operations Research from the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Applied Mathematics and Business Administration from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research interests center around fairness and ethics in the application of optimization and artificial intelligence to support decisions. Her works explore fairness perspectives from mathematical modeling, machine learning, welfare economics and moral philosophy, and aim to contribute insights about eliciting, formulating and achieving fairness. She has been published in the European Journal of Operational Research.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Accounting
Arion Cheong has a PhD in accounting information systems from Rutgers University. His research focuses on the application of data analytics in accounting and the managerial implication of information technology. His dissertation was awarded “Best Dissertation” by the American Accounting Association. He also advises firms to adopt audit data analytics including the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3) and AB InBev. He has published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting, and the European Court of Auditors Journal.
Assistant Professor of Economics
Justine Hervé holds a PhD in economics from Fordham University and a master’s in environmental and life science engineering from the University of Paris-Saclay. Her areas of research include labor economics, applied and computational microeconomics, and applied econometrics. Her dissertation explores the effect of skill specialization on job mobility and wages among low- and middle-wage workers in U.S. labor markets. She has worked as an engineer in the US and as a researcher for the World Bank and the French Institute of Demographic Studies. She has been published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Global Social Policy and Social Indicators Research.
Joon Ho Kong
Assistant Professor of Accounting
Joon Ho Kong has a PhD in accounting and a master’s in finance from Fordham University and a master’s in economics from Virginia Institute of Technology. His research centers around capital markets, focusing on corporate disclosures, executive compensation, auditing, corporate social responsibility and compliance, the role of social media and data analytics. Joon is committed to teaching financial and managerial accounting, accounting information systems, data analytics, and machine learning in accounting and compliance. He has been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance.
Choudur Lakshminarayan (Lakshmi)
Teaching Professor of Information Systems
Choudur K. Lakshminarayan joins Stevens from Teradata Labs, where he was a Chief Data Scientist. Prior to Teradata, he was at Hewlett-Packard Labs as a Principal Research Scientist. He holds a PhD in mathematical sciences from the University of Texas in Austin and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. His research focuses on mathematical statistics, applied mathematics, machine learning and algorithms, with applications in a wide range of industries. He has extensive teaching experience as an adjunct, he has published many conference papers, has consulted widely, and his name appears as an inventor in over 50 patents.
Jingrui (Victoria) Li
Assistant Professor of Fintech
Jingrui (Victoria) Li has been working as a visiting assistant professor of finance at Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business. Her areas of interest are asset pricing, fintech, investments and derivatives. She has been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance and Financial Review. Her research papers have won various awards, including the Wiley Top Cited Article Award and FMA Best Paper Award in Investments (Semifinal). In addition, she has presented her research at conferences such as American Finance Association Annual Meetings and Financial Management Association Annual Meetings. She has a PhD in finance from West Virginia University.
Assistant Professor of Marketing
Hyewon Oh has a PhD in marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MA in social psychology from Seoul National University. Her research centers around consumer well-being, highlighting the role of various individual- and societal-level factors that influence consumer happiness and prosocial behavior. She also researches the implications of the changing consumer landscape, with a particular focus on new technology and accelerating globalization. Hyewon has been published in Psychological Science, International Marketing Review, and the Journal of the Association of Consumer Research.
Assistant Professor of Management
Sibel Ozgen has a PhD in global leadership management from Florida International University. Her research focuses on strategic leadership and responsible behavior, creativity and entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence–human interaction. Her work draws on different research methods such as fsQCA, meta-analysis, ESM, bibliometric social networks, and qualitative data analysis (interviews, focus groups). She has been published in the Harvard Business Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Business Research and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
Teaching Associate Professor of Fintech and Chief Research Officer of CRAFT
Steve Taylor holds a PhD in Quantitative Finance from SUNY Stony Brook and is the new Chief Research Officer of Stevens’ NSF-funded Center for Research in Financial Technologies (CRAFT). He has published more than 20 quantitative finance papers on topics at the intersection of the application of mathematics, statistics, optimization, and financial technology and has consulted widely. He has previously worked at Bloomberg, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Morgan Stanley, and Tudor Investment Corporation. He has also organized research groups focusing on problems requiring the application of quantitative finance techniques to graduate students at NYU, MIT, and the University of Chicago.
Teaching Assistant Professor of Accounting
Ryan Wynne holds a PhD in accounting from Baruch College, an MBA from Baruch College, and a BS in finance from Villanova University. He was an adjunct lecturer at Baruch and his current research focuses on the impact of economic policy uncertainty on non-GAAP reporting. His teaching experience includes financial and managerial accounting as well as managerial and business statistics. Prior to earning his PhD, Ryan was a banking and investments analyst for J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank. His work included portfolio re-balancing and securities analysis using financial statement disclosures.
Haoying (Howie) Xu
Assistant Professor of Management
Haoying (Howie) Xu received his PhD in management from the University of Illinois Chicago. His research is focused on leadership, workplace relationships, and workplace emotions. His articles have appeared in various outlets such as Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Management, Human Relations, Journal of Business Ethics, and Harvard Business Review. He also published a book chapter on servant leadership and received a Greenleaf Scholarship Award. He has helped to plan and organize several academic events and workshops focused on reducing racial inequality in academia and industry.
