Tax Planning for Young Professionals
Taxes don’t have to be intimidating — but understanding them early can make a meaningful difference. This session is designed for students and young alumni who want a clear, practical introduction to personal tax planning and the financial decisions that shape their early careers.
Participants will learn how a tax return is structured, how income, deductions, and credits work together, and what common tax forms mean. The session will also cover key considerations for freelance or side income, including self-employment taxes and record-keeping best practices, as well as early-stage retirement planning concepts.
The session will be led by Paul Coughlan ’89, an IRS-certified Volunteer Tax Counselor, who will share practical insights to help attendees approach tax season with confidence.
