ABSTRACT

Brad Miller and Andy Kaplan will share their journeys from Stevens co-op students to leading transformative transportation projects in Hoboken and beyond. This seminar explores the role of professional organizations like the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), cutting-edge Intelligent Transportation Systems, and proven strategies for creating safer, smarter streets. Attendees will gain practical insights and career guidance to thrive in traffic and transportation engineering.

BIOGRAPHY

Brad Miller.

Brad Miller, PE, PP, PTOE, LEED AP, Stevens class of 2006, is a transportation professional with over two decades of public and private sector experience in transportation planning, engineering, and system management. He is the National Specialty Practice Lead for Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for Michael Baker International and has managed numerous multi-modal safety and mobility improvement projects and ITS deployments regionally and nationwide. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Stevens Institute of Technology and is involved in multiple professional organizations, including serving as the 2025 President of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Metropolitan Section of New York and New Jersey.


Andy Kaplan.

Andy Kaplan, PE, PTOE, RSP1, Stevens class of 2009, is Manager of Planning for Technology and Operations at the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), where he leads regional efforts to integrate technology and operations into Metropolitan Planning Organization plans and processes. Previously, he held traffic engineering leadership roles at the Port Authority of NY & NJ, advancing airport operations and managing the regional Traffic Management Center. A recognized national thought leader in traffic safety, Andy has earned multiple honors, including ITE’s International Transportation Achievement Award and FHWA’s National Roadway Safety Award. He lives in Jersey City with his wife and two young children.
