Research Ethics and Writing: How to Ensure the Research Meets the Ethical Guidelines and Writing Style

ABSTRACT
The first part of this seminar discusses ethical guidelines in research such as authorship, citations, and data reporting. Additional topics include ethically aligned design for autonomous and intelligent systems (AIS) and the IEEE 7000 series of standards. The second part provides an overview of the research writing style with focus on common mistakes in writing research reports, theses, dissertations, conference papers, or journal papers.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Kevin W. Lu is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science at Stevens Institute of Technology. His courses include First Year Experience and Engineering Design VII and VIII. He received the 2019 Henry Morton Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, 2021 ECE Outstanding Teaching Award, 2023 ECE Outstanding Service Award for Faculty, 2024 IEEE SA Standards Board Distinguished Service Award for superior IEEE SA Governance leadership as the IEEE SA Standards Board Audit Committee Chair and as the IEEE SA Industry Connections Committee Chair.
