ABSTRACT
The global pharmaceutical industry is increasingly recognizing the importance of incorporating sustainability practices into its operations, driven by a growing understanding of its environmental impact and the need for long-term responsible operations. This presentation provides an overview of key sustainability trends and initiatives within the industry, including commitments to carbon neutrality and net-zero goals, the adoption of green chemistry principles, sustainable manufacturing and supply chains, water stewardship, product stewardship, and waste management. Additionally, it highlights social and governance initiatives. We will present some of the public sustainability initiatives for a handful of global players. Finally, the presentation emphasizes the importance of transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting and changes in industry culture to prioritize sustainable actions.
BIOGRAPHY
Jennifer DiPilato has over 25 years of experience as a consulting environmental engineer and holds the role of Market Sector Leader of Pharmaceuticals at Brown and Caldwell. Ms. DiPilato holds a BS in environmental science from the University of Rochester and an MS in chemical engineering from Manhattan University. She is a licensed professional engineer in chemical engineering in New York State and Pennsylvania. She is an active member of the global sustainability Disclosure, Organization and Culture sub-committee of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.
