In this talk, Warner Chen shares his personal and professional journey—from navigating early uncertainties to leading clinical science and biomarker strategy in the pharmaceutical industry. Through stories of resilience and reinvention, he explores how adaptability became a key asset in responding to change, how career goals evolved through reflection and opportunity, and how a positive mindset helped turn setbacks into stepping stones. This session invites students to consider how curiosity, courage, and optimism can open unexpected doors and shape meaningful careers.

BIOGRAPHY

Warner Chen.

Warner Chen began his scientific journey in Taiwan, earning degrees in Biology and Bioinformatics. His passion for connecting science with medicine led him to a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Rochester, followed by postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School, where he focused on biomarker discovery and translational oncology.

He entered the industry at Johnson & Johnson as a Senior Scientist in oncology, then moved to Bristol Myers Squibb as Associate Director in Translational Medicine, contributing to immunology research and cross-functional initiatives.

Now, as Director of Clinical Science Biomarkers at Johnson & Johnson, Warner leads efforts to integrate biomarker strategies into clinical trials, advancing precision medicine for immune-related diseases. He is also committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists.
