You can also view your registration appointment times by following these instructions in Workday. It is important that you register as soon as you are eligible to do so. Some classes fill quickly, so register early to ensure that you get a seat in your preferred course sections.

  • Please use the information below to ensure that you know what to do before, during, and after registration.

    Before Registration

    • Check Onboarding Tasks: Complete the onboarding tasks in your Workday inbox. You will not be able to register until these are all complete
    • Check Registration Holds: Check your Workday account for any registration holds. If you have a registration hold that you do not know how to resolve, please let your academic advisor know as soon as possible.
Students with significant unpaid balances on their accounts or outstanding immunization records will not be permitted to register. This policy covers all forms of registration. Student Financial Services will inform all students who are placed on hold of their status in advance of the registration period in addition to normal monthly billing. Furthermore, official transcripts will not be released if there is an unpaid balance on the account.
    • Review Academic Requirements:Prepare an academic plan and review the requirements for your academic program(s) with your academic advisor. Make sure to prioritize registering for classes that are required for your degree. It is helpful to develop alternate selections for classes that may be small and/or in high demand.
    • Create Alternate Schedules: Develop at least two alternate schedules in Workday, to have a back-up plan.
    • Submit Pre-Requisite Overrides: Submit any “pre-requisite overrides” necessary for registration before registration period begins.
    • Request Permission for Graduate Courses: Undergraduates that need permission to enroll into Graduate Courses will need to submit “Undergraduate Permission to Take Graduate Courses”  forms before the registration period begins.

Undergraduates will be able to enroll in the graduate courses after the registration dates for undergraduate registration. Undergraduates will not enroll in graduate courses during the graduate registration period, which begins a week earlier.
  • Engineering undergraduates are required to submit an approved Academic Plan through Workday, before the end of the third semester.

Science or Computer Science undergraduates are required to submit an Academic Plan, before the end of the second semester of enrollment.

Undergraduates on the Reduced Load Plan have one additional semester to submit an approved Academic Plan.

Transfer Engineering students are required to submit an approved Academic Plan Form the semester before enrolling in your first technical elective./p>

All other transfer students are required to submit their Academic Plan after meeting with their advisor for your second semester at Stevens. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academics at (201)216-5228.

Graduate students must have an approved Academic Plan on file before they register for their second semester

A registration hold will be placed on the account of any student who has not submitted their Academic Plan after the completion of 9 credit hours. Please contact [email protected] with any questions regarding this policy.

Registration FAQ

  • A: The Workday Canvas page contains user guides that will walk you through the steps for registration. In general, there are two ways to register:

    1. Create and Register from a Schedule: Build a course schedule and register for all of your classes at one time. Keep in mind that, depending on availability, certain classes or sections may close while you are building your schedule.
    2. Register from a Course Section: Register for each class individually. This process allows you to prioritize individual classes when registering.
  • A: The 2022 Summer and Fall class schedules will be available in Workday on March 21, 2022. You can access this information by using the Find Course Sections feature in the Planning and Registration section of your Academics tab in Workday. Be sure to select the appropriate time-period for “Start Date Within” (2022 Summer (Full Summer); 2022 Summer 1; 2022 Summer 2, 2022 Fall) and “Academic Level" (Undergraduate; Graduate (Master's); Graduate Certificate; Doctoral).

Please remember that the course schedule is always subject to change; if a course is canceled or rescheduled by the department after you have registered, the Registrar's Office will inform you by email.

  • A: You will not be able to register for a course if you are missing a formal prerequisite. However, there are certain situations where students can request a course section prerequisite override. These situations include special topics courses, thesis enrollment, thesis prep, and research enrollment among others. These prerequisite overrides should be submitted ahead of registration.

Students who need to access one of these courses should follow these steps for filling out a course section prerequisite override. Please remember to fill out the questionnaire associated with the request.

NOTE: If approved, this course will not be automatically added to your schedule. Instead, you will be able to register for the course yourself.

  • A: If a class is closed, it means that it is at capacity or seats are being reserved for specific majors/minors. If you need to gain access to a closed course, please schedule a meeting with your academic advisor. Closed course requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis and priority will be given to students who need a course in order to graduate within the next academic year.

  • A: Undergraduates wishing to enroll in any graduate School of Business course, or any other 600-level or higher graduate course, must use the Undergraduate Permission to Take Graduate Courses request on Workday.

Graduate-level courses cannot be internally transferred from an undergraduate to graduate transcript until a senior submits an Undergraduate Program Completion Application and an approved Master's/Ph.D. academic plan.

  • A: In general, federal instructional regulations do not permit time-conflicts. A few rare exceptions include undergraduate varsity sports or Senior Design classes conflicting with other undergraduate courses. In these rare instances, students should meet with the appropriate academic advisor to follow the Time Conflict Enrollment Process which includes the Time Conflict Enrollment Form.

  • A: Undergraduate students who are not on academic probation or reduced load (whether mandatory or voluntary) are restricted to enroll in a maximum of 20 credits per semester. To exceed this requires a >Credit Overload request approved by the Office of Undergraduate Academics. You may be subject to additional tuition charges as a result of the overload.

Graduate students are restricted limited to 12 credits in the semester. To exceed this requires a Credit Overload request approved by the Office of Graduate Academics. You will be subject to additional tuition charged at a per-credit rate.

  • A: Full-time undergraduate study is defined as 12 credits per term. However, undergraduate students not enrolled in a five-year plan will be billed for a reduced tuition charge if taking fewer than 12 credits; reduced tuition charges could have an impact on financial aid eligibility. Questions regarding this impact should be directed to the Student Service Center.

Full-time graduate study is defined as 9 credits per term. Graduate students enrolled in fewer than 9 credits could have an impact on financial aid eligibility. Questions regarding this impact should be directed to the Student Service Center.

  • A: Students can add or drop classes online in Workday during the ADD/DROP period with no fees assessed. The add/drop period always takes place during the first two weeks of classes in the fall and spring semesters, and the first one week of classes during the summer terms. During this period, you can use these instructions to swap or drop a course in Workday.

    Summer 2022 Session I Add/Drop: Thursday, May 19 – Thursday, May 26

    Summer 2022 Session II Add/Drop: Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 15

    Summer 2022 Session Add/Drop: Thursday, May 19 – Friday, June 3

    Fall 2022 Add/Drop: Thursday, September 1 – Thursday, September 15

REMINDER: if you have a financial hold, no enrollment changes will be processed unless you have signed permission from Student Financial Services. If the hold is not resolved by the end of the add/drop period, Student Financial Services will assess a late change of enrollment Fee.

  • A: After end of the add/drop period, withdrawals are permitted, but drops are not. If you withdraw from a course, a grade of "W" will be recorded on your academic record and will be counted as part of your regular course load for all billing purposes, including overloads.

If you need to withdraw from a course, please pay special attention to the withdrawal deadlines. There are two withdrawal deadlines in the semester. Students who request to withdraw from a course prior to the first deadline can do so without instructor approval. Students who request to withdraw after the first deadline but prior to the second and final deadline can only do so with instructor approval. Approval from the Office of Undergraduate Academics, for undergraduates, or Office of Graduate Academics, for graduates, is required for all withdrawals. To initiate a course withdrawal request, please follow these steps in Workday.
