About the School of Systems & Enterprises

The School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) offers some of the highest rated programs Stevens has to offer at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with nationally ranked online-only graduate programs, as well. SSE graduates secure desired career outcomes quickly and earn high starting salaries.

The School of Systems and Enterprises attracts bright minds with bold ideas who want to take on some of the most dire threats facing the world. SSE is dedicated to educating thought and technical leaders who will impact global challenges in research and development, policy and strategy, and entrepreneurial innovation in academia, business and government.

One of the nation’s first schools dedicated to systems science and engineering, the School of Systems & Enterprises offers students the opportunity to learn from a global leader in systems education and research. SSE undergraduate and graduate degree programs place students in a hands-on, application-driven academic environment that combines study in engineering management, industrial and systems engineering, software engineering, space systems engineering, systems analytics and systems engineering with research and entrepreneurial opportunities.

SSE’s emphasis on transdisciplinary education gives students the multidisciplinary perspectives that they need to immediately step into leadership roles of increasing responsibility across industries after graduation. From a faculty body of systems science and engineering scholars and industry professionals, students learn about the tools and processes that are required to successfully manage complexity across enterprise levels. SSE’s approach to graduate education ensures that students graduate with the ability to view 21st-century challenges from all angles, empowering them to see the bigger picture and become high-impact thought and technical leaders across areas such as aerospace and defense, healthcare, intelligent transportation, smart cities and urban resilience.

SSE offers three undergraduate majors and four minors, the option to participate in Stevens' Accelerated Master's Program (AMP)five master's programs, three doctoral degrees and 15 graduate certificates — all of which focus on two core areas: systems and software engineering, and enterprise science and engineering. Degree and certificate programs are designed by professionals, for professionals, to align with industry priorities. Because they are so relevant to today’s market, these programs offer a unique advantage, providing a world-class, practice-based and research-supported education that translates immediately into expertise that students can take to the workplace.

The school is also home to the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC), a University-Affiliated Research Center (UARC) of the U.S. Department of Defense. Led by Stevens Institute of Technology, the SERC is a national resource that leverages the research and expertise of senior lead researchers from 22 collaborator universities throughout the United States. SERC is unprecedented in the depth and breadth of its reach, leadership and citizenship in systems engineering through its conduct of vitally important research and the education of future systems engineering leaders.

SSE also hosts the Center for Complex Systems & Enterprises, an interdisciplinary research hub focused on complex enterprise systems in the aerospace and defense, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning applications, healthcare and transportation, and logistics domains.
