Welcome to Mathematical Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stevens Institute of Technology.  Mathematics is an essential part of science and engineering, as well as being a fascinating field in its own right.  Scientific and engineering problems have often inspired new developments in mathematics, and, conversely, mathematical results have frequently had an impact on business, engineering, the sciences, and technology.

Academics

Undergraduate Programs

Graduate Degree Programs

Stevens offers a Master of Science in Financial Engineering but this program is now administered out of the School of Systems and Enterprises.

Graduate Certificate Programs

  • Applied Statistics
  • Stochastic Systems

Each graduate certificate program consists of four courses, including one elective chosen with the consent of the departmental advisor. Most courses may be applied toward a master's degree, as well as counting toward the certificate.

Research

The Department is committed to stochastic systems and optimization, and algebraic cryptography as its areas of emphasis. The department is home to the Algebraic Cryptography Center which hosts regular seminars, conferences and international visitors.Currently there are ongoing seminars in nonlinear systems, stochastic systems, and algebraic cryptography. The graduate student organization, the Stevens Society of Mathematicians, sponsors a series of informal Wednesday afternoon talks as well other activities. Seminars and talks are open to the public; Stevens students are particularly invited to attend.
