In-situ process monitoring and quality control are required to ensure reliability, repeatability, and standardization of additive manufacturing for industrial applications. Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Souran Manoochehri and a team of four PhD students are studying techniques to closely monitor and control the 3D printing and fabrication process. A unique mix of real-time physical measurements and sensory data fusion, assisted with machine-learning techniques is helping to bring consistent quality to this evolving technology.
