What Is the HealthTech Hackathon?
The second annual Hackathon is a sprint-like design event in which participants with diverse perspectives — clinicians, students, entrepreneurs, industrial designers, engineers, programmers and healthcare professionals — form teams to collaborate on solutions to pressing problems in healthcare today.
This year's event takes place over an intense, fun-filled three-day weekend to ideate, iterate and innovate in order to develop novel solutions to a specific healthcare challenge. The Hackathon culminates in a team pitch competition with cash awards given to the best prototype software or apps.
Highlights from 2017
The first Hackathon was a major success, with corporate sponsorship from Bristol-Myers Squibb, Quest Diagnostics, Hackensack Meridian Health, Lowenstein Sandler, Health Recovery Solutions, CarePoint Health, Greenberg Traurig, Gibbons PC and NJ Innovation Institute.
More than 120 applicants included undergraduate and graduate students from Stevens, New York University, Columbia University, New Jersey Medical School, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Lehigh University, as well as industry professionals and even high school students. Ten teams competed for three prizes, totaling $10,000.
