The Stevens Venture Center sponsors LaunchPad, a 12-month program that provides Stevens students with the opportunity to learn entrepreneurship and innovation by working with real-world entrepreneurs in building new technology-based businesses.

Launchpad logoUnder the direction of Professor Mukund Iyengar, LaunchPad kicks off in the spring semester each year with a preparatory meeting where students learn how to identify ideas with potential commercial viability and the steps involved in building a startup. Working with Dr. Iyengar or entrepreneurs from the community, they create teams to implement their business idea and create a viable business.

LaunchPad led to the creation of several startups that continue to grow:

  • iUbble, founded by Kevin Barresi as a junior at Stevens, was dedicated to creating a better search engine. With guidance from seasoned fintech business entrepreneur Jim Tousignant, iUbble pivoted and focused on building a Wall Street-centric search and analytics platform. iUbble was acquired by FinTech Studios and Barresi now serves as chief technology officer of that fast-growing company.
  • DataMinded Solutions, founded by Justin Williams and Nishant Panchal sophomores at Stevens, was developing a patient diabetes management portal. Through intensive customer discovery, the team pivoted to developing a unique suite of software and digital tools that provide a vision and implementation path for integrated healthcare delivery systems. Rebranded as Noteworth, the company is headquartered in Hoboken and continues its strong growth five years after its beginnings.
  • Savizar was started by Dillon Uzar, Alex Sabella and Sarah Vitkus. In the course of developing a patent search engine tool, they realized that they had developed a database storage engine that provides unprecedented data analytics speed using a fraction of the hardware typically required. They discovered that their storage engine was faster and performed better than anything they had ever used – and not just on patents. Rebranded as DexterityDB, the company plans to launch its product to big data users in the first quarter of 2019.
