Three Teams Gear Up For Conference Tournaments

The action begins this weekend as the Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer and Field Hockey teams head into the Empire 8 conference championships. Each squad finished in the top-four in the conference during the regular season, clinching the opportunity to compete for a league title and NCAA Tournament berth.

Men’s Soccer

Leading the conference with no regular-season losses, the Ducks will host fourth-seeded Utica on Friday, November 5th at 5 pm. Also on Friday, Nazareth will host Elmira to decide who plays in the conference championship on Sunday.

Coming off another incredible season, the men’s soccer team finished 12-1-3 overall, and 6-0-1 in the Empire 8. The Ducks have beaten the other top-three seeds and look forward to defending their conference championship.

Women’s Soccer

Seeded third, Stevens will play at Nazareth on Saturday, November 6th, facing off against second-seeded Ithaca at 1:30 pm. At 11 am, RIT will play Nazareth for the other slot in the conference championship, which will be played at Nazareth on Sunday at 1 pm.

The Ducks finished the regular season 14-3-1 overall, and 5-3 in the conference. They beat RIT and lost to Nazareth and Ithaca, putting up a good fight in both cases before losing both games in overtime.

Field Hockey

The Field Hockey team finished the regular season seeded first in the conference, and will take on fourth-seeded Nazareth in the semifinals being held Saturday, November 6th at noon at Stevens. The other semifinal contest pairs Utica against Washington & Jefferson, also at Stevens. The winners of the two match-ups will face each other on Sunday at Stevens as they compete for the conference championship.

Stevens went 8-10 overall, and 5-1 in the Empire 8 conference this season. The Ducks beat W&J 2-1 in overtime, lost to Utica 1-0 and beat Nazareth 2-1 in double-overtime, double stroke-off. Stevens won a head-to-head matchup with W&J for the top conference seed.

Finals at Stevens

There is a possibility that Stevens will host both the Men’s Soccer and Field Hockey championships on Sunday. If this is the case, Men’s Soccer will play at 11 am followed by Field Hockey at 1:30 pm. If only Field Hockey is contested, start time will be 1 pm.
