Theta Alpha Honored at National Convention

Theta Alpha, the Stevens chapter of the co-ed service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega (APO), was honored with many awards at the organization's recent national convention in Anaheim, Cali.

Theta Alpha was presented with the Region I Service Award, which recognizes the best annual service service program among chapters from New York, New Jersey and New England.

The chapter also received the Chapter of Excellence and Pledge Program of Excellence awards at the highest (diamond) level. Criteria for the Chapter of Excellence award include diligence in submitting chapter paperwork and dues, participation in national service programs, participation in interchapter activities, participation in leadership development, communication with alumni, and more. The Pledge Program of Excellence award recognizes retention during the pledge process, education in fraternity history and traditions, and other aspects of an ideal pledge program.

Theta Alpha also received its first competitive national award - the John S. Grossi National Man Mile Award - due to the delegation the chapter sent to the national convention, which included 18 active brothers, 5 alumni and 1 guest.

Individually, one member, Alexander Lee '13 was presented with the Robert J. Hilliard Award of Dedication, which recognizes continuous dedication to the development of leadership, friendship and service at a local and nearby-interstate level.

"Hopefully this will invigorate our chapter to strive more diligently for national recognition by bettering our programs in Leadership, Friendship, and Service," said Theta Alpha President David Kleszyk '14.

Alpha Phi Omega is an international coed service fraternity founded on the principles of leadership, friendship and service. The Stevens chapter, Theta Alpha, includes approximately 90 active members who are devoted to serving the community and developing leadership skills in addition to forming brotherly bonds between members.
