On May 20, 2014, Sven Dietrich, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Security & Privacy (TCSP, http://www.ieee-security.org/ ), presented at the IEEE Symposium on Security & Privacy in San Jose, California.
Dietrich has held several elected and appointed positions with the IEEE, including, most recently, serving as the Chair for the Technical Activities Committee (TAC). He now oversees 28 technical committees and technical councils (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/tandc/tclist), each representing areas of expertise within the IEEE Computer Society, in close collaboration with the Technical and Conferences Activities Board Chair. His contributions include helping expand the S&P conference, adding the Security and Privacy Workshops, and promoting better copyright policies for conference and workshop authors.
The award was given during the TCSP award ceremony that was held at the IEEE Computer Society S&P conference on May 20. The award was selected by Hilarie Orman (TCSP awards chair) in consultation with the TCSP officers and presented by the current TCSP chair, Patrick McDaniel.
“This award is a wonderful token of appreciation for the work of years past, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us in the community,” says Dietrich.
