Stevens Institute of Technology congratulates Dr. Thomas Wakeman III, research professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering, and deputy director of the highly-renowned Davidson Laboratory on his appointment to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Marine Transportation System National Advisory Committee (MTSNAC). The appointment came from the administrator of the Maritime Administration (MARAD), with an objective to provide information, advice and recommendations to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on matters concerning the national Marine Transportation System (MTS), and its co-modal connections for passenger and freight movements both domestically and internationally.

Wakeman had been previously appointed to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s special committee for the development of metrics regarding port performance, the Port Performance Working Group.

“I believe this is a wonderful opportunity to gain recognition of Stevens’ achievements in civil engineering/transportation programs, as well as the important research underway in support of transportation projects for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ),” says Wakeman.

The announcement of Wakeman’s appointment is featured in Sea Power magazine, the official publication of the Navy League of the United States.
