Stevens Institute of Technology Launches New Technical Leadership Program

Hoboken, NJ – Stevens Institute of Technology is launching a unique new Technical Leadership Program for selected engineering and technology professionals. The program begins in June 2011. The only program of its kind in the United States, it features an innovative curriculum emphasizing the experiential approach and systems thinking for which Stevens is internationally known.

"The technical leadership program at Stevens is reflective of our 140-year history and legacy in technology innovations and business entrepreneurship,” stated Dr. Dinesh Verma, Dean of the School of Systems & Enterprises. “This program is positioned to accept a selected group of senior engineers and technologists, and position them for technical leadership roles within industry and government."
The program is specifically designed for senior level systems engineering and technology professionals who are looking to develop the skills needed to become technical leaders in complex organizations ranging from Chief Engineer to Executive Engineering and Chief Technical Officer. The Technical Leadership Program will provide growth opportunities, advanced training and hands-on learning to sponsored students from industry and government. A flexible yet robust curriculum integrates lecture, case study, and simulation of critical leadership challenges posed in the expanding perspectives of systems, business, and enterprise with critical components such as ethical awareness, effective communication, technical integrity, and personal mentoring.
The content results from over two years of collaborative engagement with senior technical leaders throughout industry and government, including guidance from on-going research sponsored by the Department of Defense’s Systems Engineering Research University Affiliated Research Center (SER-UARC), which Stevens leads.
Verizon Services Operations and Lockheed Martin Corporation are two of the sponsors that are sending participants to this program. Virginia Ruesterholz, Executive Vice President and Presidentof Verizon Services Operations, said: “I am privileged to support the Stevens Technical Leadership Program. It is through a program of this caliber that we find our next innovators and leaders.  It is a direct path toward the future success of our country and our companies.”
“At Lockheed Martin, our technical community is vital to innovating solutions to global challenges. We depend on our engineers, scientists and technicians for the development and assured operation of complex systems,” concluded Jeff Wilcox, Vice President of Engineering at Lockheed Martin Corporation. “The Stevens Technical Leadership Program will help us develop the pipeline of technical talent needed for the future.”
The initial offering will be held in the Stevens Washington DC Location.  For more information, visit or contact the Student & Faculty Care Center at: [email protected]
