Sound Device by Prof. Ricky Graham on Display at National Academy NYC

Prof. Ricky Graham (Assistant Professor, Music & Technology), in collaboration with artist Ingo Appel, created a sound device called Thorn Reader that is currently on display at the National Academy.

The device's rotating thorn stalks interact with two IR range sensors via Arduino, providing aggregate data that is mapped to transformative signal processes in Pure Data. This is the first of several stages of development, and represents an exploration of art, technology, nature and the poetic.

This developmental piece is currently on display from November 5, 2012 – January 5, 2013, Monday through Saturday, at the National Academy in NYC.
