Six Stevens Ducks Selected Empire 8 Coaches, Players of Year

As the fall athletic seasons wind down, the Empire 8 conference selected six Stevens Ducks as Coaches or Players of the Year in their respective sports.

Women’s Soccer
Boasting a 12-3-3 overall record and an undefeated mark in conference play, freshman Ann Heine was named Rookie of the Year and head coach Jeff Parker was named coach of the year. Heine leads the Ducks with eight goals this season. With her help, Parker in the process of trying to lead the team to sixth postseason conference championship and seventh NCAA tournament appearance since he took the reins in 2001. Seniors Kathleen Schuckers, junior Paige Allen and sophomore Bridgette Barden were also named to the Empire 8 first-team. The team will host St. John Fisher College for the Empire 8 semifinal at home on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11:30 a.m. If the Ducks are victorious, they will play for the championship at home on Sunday.

Men’s Soccer
Junior Zach Adler of the nationally ranked men’s soccer team was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year, and first-year head coach Devin Rensing – who led Stevens to an undefeated regular season in conference play – was named Coach of the Year. Adler, a repeat first-team selection, leads the Ducks with 22 points on six goals and 10 assists. Three other Stevens players were named to the all-conference first-team – junior Victor Daza, senior Anthony Roden and sophomore Stephen Dunbar. Stevens will host the semifinal of the Empire 8 tournament on Friday, Nov. 4, at 3:30 p.m. versus Ithaca College for the right to play in Sunday’s Empire 8 final, also to be played at home.

Field Hockey
Senior field hockey player Mallory Swanson was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year, joining two teammates – junior Mary Nikish and senior Jillian Price – on the Empire 8 first-team. A team captain for the second straight year, Swanson has 21 points on eight goals and five assists this season. Stevens will take on Nazareth College in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Championship hosted by regular-season champ Utica College this Saturday. They’ll advance to the title game with a win.
